The Heart of Christmas

I really enjoyed it! Eve runs the B & B and she doesn’t react well to her birthday, which leads to an encounter with a sexy newcomer to Whiskey Creek. I love that Eve has a tendency to say what she thinks. Eve is also loyal, giving, and persistent. Rex/Brent is just the opposite. Rex is very private and absolutely avoids conversation about himself and his life as much as possible. Both have high expectations of themselves, especially when they believe they have failed.

Despite the fact that Rex is clearly keeping many secrets, Eve is intrigued. They have great chemistry and their physical relationship develops very quickly, but intimacy takes longer to develop. Rex claims to be uninterested in creating any ties or commitment, but he finds himself drawn to Eve in spite of his current circumstances. Eve's friends are skeptical about Rex, which is understandable, but I think Eve could have used their support. It's difficult to be one of the few the single people in a group of couples.

I'm really looking forward to the next book in this series! I would love for Kyle to get his own HEA and the continuing drama with Chey. I think Chey, Presley, and Aaron underestimated just how taxing it will be to keep this secret.

Melanie quits her job since she can't handle being around Rafe anymore. She's in love with him and he only sees her as his employee. So, she decides that it's time to start living life for herself and find her passion. Rafe is a wealthy businessman and also plays in a band as "Storm." Now that he's back after a year away, his main priority is building his relationship with his brother.

I really liked Melanie and Rafe/Storm together!! They had great chemistry and they were able to bond over their pasts and families. I loved how Rafe would check to make sure that Melanie was ok. I liked how Melanie challenged Rafe to embrace his own passions and desires. Rafe could be sweet, commanding, and frustrating.

Rafe's band members are the stereotypical rock stars - attractive, sexy, and charming, and they made for really great characters. Dane and Jessica were excellent matchmakers! I also really enjoyed reading the entire series together and not waiting for the next installment in the series.

First loves have the ability to fill us with hope and then shatter us when they end. Some people can pick up the pieces and move on. Others simply learn how to exist as a fragment of the person that they used to be.

Shane “Mack” MacAllister is one of the ones simply existing. His wife Ella died at a young age, leaving him alone and broken. Shane knew he’d never be able to give himself to another, believing there was nothing left to give. That is until a young, feisty doctor blazed into his life and made him rethink letting someone into what’s left of his tattered heart.

Dr. Megan Huntley has devoted her life to taking care of others, ever since her twin sister was brutally murdered. She might not have been able to save her sister, but she has made it her mission to help other victims. Long hours in the Emergency Room and volunteer work at the Rape Crisis Center leave little time for relationships. When Megan meets the rugged and handsome Shane MacAllister, she decides to throw caution to the wind and take the police detective for a ride. Too bad she can’t get him out of her head… or her life.

Will Shane and Megan be bound together by true love? Or will past loves and tragedy tear them apart?

Great new series

Alex - Sawyer Bennett

Alex was a great book!! Alex is a premier hockey player who is hated by the fans and he hates the game itself. Alex is not your typical bad boy athlete, as he keeps to himself most of the time. He doesn't feel compelled to change his image or behavior, until his team forces him to join a drug outreach program as the spokesperson. Things begin to change when Alex meets Sutton Price, a dedicated, intelligent, understanding, and gorgeous counselor who is heading up the program. The attraction is instant for both of them, but Sutton understandably doesn't want to cross that line.

Sutton, while at times equally frustrated and fulfilled with her work, hasn't had good luck in love. I was really not a fan of her ex-boyfriend, in part because of his excuse for ending their relationship. Because of her work and her own childhood, Sutton is the perfect woman for Alex. She's supportive and understanding, even when Alex is an ass. She challenges Alex to be a better man and she won't accept his behavior.

Garrett is a great secondary character! He is an integral character and really helps pull Alex into being a better teammate and more involved in the game. I would love Garrett to get his own book!

I would recommend this book! It was a really good start to a new series. It had great characters, an interesting story, a realistic picture of addiction, and good pacing. I loved the build-up and anticipation for Alex and Sutton's relationship. I'm looking forward to more Cold Fury Hockey books!

Yours Truly, Taddy: (The Undergrad Years #2) (Invitation to Eden) - Avery Aster

I really enjoyed Yours Truly, Taddy!! It was a quick read and great to see the group at this stage in life. I love the close friendship between Taddy, Lex, Vive, and Blake. Leon, Fabian, and Gustave are the sexy, intriguing Frenchmen working on Taddy's photo shoot. Taddy's fantasies about her Frenchmen were just as hot as the reality! Great chemistry, sexy times, and drama. Eden sounds like a place I wouldn't mind visiting! I would recommend this addition to a great series! I can't wait for Blake's story!

Snarky, hot, and fun

Love, Lex: (The Undergrad Years #1) New Adult Contemporary Romance - Avery Aster

I really enjoyed seeing the Lex, Taddy, Vive, and Blake at this point in their lives! I can totally relate to Lex's love of sweets and I loved her vivid fantasies of Ford! Ford is a sexy, tattooed cop with a motorcycle. There was a good mix of snark, drama, and heat. I would recommend Love, Lex. I'm looking forward to more of the Undergrad Years!

Amazing book!

Maybe Someday - Colleen Hoover

OMG! Maybe Someday is an amazing book! Colleen Hoover found a way to make me laugh, make me cry, break my heart, and put it back together. Sydney is a college student who loves music. She's an incredibly talented songwriter. Ridge is a wonderful, loyal, sexy, and talented musician. I loved how Sydney and Ridge collaborated to write the lyrics for his songs. Somehow they just fit together. Sydney and Ridge bond as their share their passion.

I loved the characters! Maggie was incredible and I could relate to her situation. Warren is a great best friend who just wants to protect Ridge. I felt their emotions and pain and guilt and confusion. I didn't know if Sydney and Ridge could get their maybe someday or if even that was the outcome I wanted. It's an impossible situation where no one can emerge unscathed. I loved how the story was resolved. It was a great way to end the book. I highly recommend reading Maybe Someday!
